This role expands Azhar’s current responsibilities, as he also serves as a member of the selection committee.

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been appointed as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s Head of Youth Development after a comprehensive recruitment process.

This appointment expands Azhar’s current role, as he also serves as a member of the Men’s National Selection Committee.

Azhar Ali, a revered figure in Pakistan cricket, began his journey at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2002 before advancing to the senior national team. Over his illustrious career from 2010 to 2022, he represented Pakistan in 97 Test matches and 53 ODIs.

As captain, Azhar led the national team in nine Tests and 31 ODIs and played a crucial role in Pakistan’s historic ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2017.

In his new role as Head of Youth Development, Azhar is tasked with shaping the future of Pakistan cricket. His responsibilities include developing and implementing youth cricket strategies, establishing strong grassroots structures and talent pathways, collaborating with regional cricket associations to enhance age-group programmes, mentoring emerging cricketers under the PCB Pathways Programme, and conducting seminars and clinics to promote off-field development for young players.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Azhar said he was honoured to contribute to Pakistan cricket in this capacity.

“Having progressed through the age-group ranks and experienced extensive club and domestic cricket, I fully appreciate the importance of grassroots development in nurturing future stars.

“Significant progress has already been made in this area, and I am eager to work with my colleagues to take our youth development programme to greater heights. Our mission is to identify promising talent and prepare them to excel on the international stage.”

The PCB congratulated Azhar on his appointment, expressing confidence that his vast experience and vision would play a pivotal role in the advancement of youth cricket in Pakistan.
